We are a non-profit organization based in Shelton, Connecticut.
Our Mission Statement
To provide assistance for homeless cats that have been cast away and
abandoned by their owners, and their offspring who were born in the wild
and have never known an owner. This assistance includes but is not
limited to neutering and maintenance of feral cat colonies, socializing
of feral kittens, placing adoptable cats into appropriate homes, and providing
a permanent, comfortable sanctuary for those cats which are both unadoptable
and unreleasable.
Although
it is our dream to someday have a facility of our own, we currently
work out of our private homes. Since all of the cats we work with have
been rescued from the streets, many are very shy and need extra patience
and TLC. It can take a long time to find homes for these cats, so our
foster homes are filled to capacity. Our current focus is on TNR (Trap/Neuter/Return)
which is a method of non-lethal feral cat control that has been proven
to be effective.
When notified of a population of feral cats that are
being fed by a caretaker we trap each cat, have it neutered, vaccinated,
permanently identified as being neutered by tipping the left ear, care
for it during recovery from surgery, then release it back to the caretaker
who will continue to provide food, water and shelter for the remainder
of the cat's life. We will remain available to the caretaker should
one of these cats become ill or injured, or should a new cat join the
colony and need to be neutered.
Although we do not currently have the
space to take new cats in, we do have several needy cats available
for adoption. We work extremely hard to find the best match between pet
and adopter. We will be completely honest about our cats' personalities
and behaviors, and pride ourselves on happy adoptions. Our cats come
with a "lifetime guarantee" - they can come back to us at any time
for any reason, always! Prospective adopters should be patient with
the number of questions that we ask - it is of the utmost importance
for both the cat and the adoptive owner that a proper match is found. |
